I’m so glad you stopped by and boy, do we have a lot to talk about, huh? If you’re checking this page out, it’s likely because you’ve got a child who either is, or you think should be, receiving special services through your school district.
You might be wondering, who is this chick and why should I listen to her? (Also, how in the heck do I pronounce “Rebe”? It’s just like Debbie, but with an R.)
Well, here’s the best reason I can give you: I’m a Special Needs Mama, too!
Our first attempt to get my oldest evaluated by the school district went VERY poorly. I was completely caught off-guard when they denied our (valid) request. This shock spurred me to dive in, read everything, ask a million questions and figure it all out so that my baby got exactly what he needed to be successful in school.
My background as an Air Force Officer plus 15 years of negotiating contracts gives me a unique approach to working with school administrators, teachers, and medical professionals. When you add in my husband’s background as an Officer, plus his experience in process development, consulting and audit…well. We’ve got some skills not everyone has.
But our approach has proven to be successful. We’ve now set up Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in two states, for two children, across FIVE different schools. Each one has provided its own set of challenges, absolutely! At this point, though, we’re a pretty well-oiled machine and have been successful in helping others, too.
The best news is our approach is repeatable and you can, without a doubt, learn how to be an amazing team-builder and advocate for your child.
